Frequently Asked Questions

NDIS physiotherapy and exercise physiology is designed to assist people with disabilities by improving physical function, mobility, and quality of life through tailored rehabilitation services. Physiotherapists and exercise physiologists play a key role in helping NDIS participants manage their conditions, reduce the impact of disability, and achieve goals related to health, independence, and participation in daily activities.

Whether your disability is congenital, acquired, or the result of an injury, physiotherapy and exercise physiology can address a wide range of physical concerns, including:

  • Mobility limitations
  • Pain management
  • Strengthening weak muscles
  • Improving balance and coordination
  • Maximising independence in daily activities
  • Post-surgical rehabilitation

We understand that no two individuals are the same, which is why our approach is always person-centered and goal-driven. Your specific needs, goals, and preferences are at the forefront of every treatment plan.

To access physiotherapy and exercise physiology through the NDIS, follow these steps:

  • Obtain an NDIS Plan: First, you need to be an NDIS participant. If you are not already registered, you can apply for access through the NDIS website. Once approved, you’ll receive an NDIS plan detailing your funding and supports.
  • Identify Physiotherapy and/or exercise physiology as a Support: Your NDIS plan may include physiotherapy funding if it is deemed necessary for your disability-related needs. Work with your NDIS planner or Local Area Coordinator (LAC) to ensure physiotherapy is included in your plan.
  • Choose a Provider: Select a registered NDIS physiotherapy and exercise physiology provider, such as our clinic. We are experienced in working with NDIS participants and can assist with goal-setting and treatment planning.
  • Book an Appointment: Once you’ve chosen a provider, contact us to schedule your first appointment. We’ll work with you to create a personalised treatment plan and help you achieve your goals.

At Sydney Muscle & Joint Clinic, the following conditions are examples of those we have managed and supported:

Our NDIS physiotherapy and exercise physiology services are tailored to each participant’s individual needs, promoting greater independence and improving functional abilities.

NDIS physiotherapy and exercise physiology sessions are funded through your NDIS plan, which is based on the goals and needs identified during your planning meeting. If physiotherapy is included in your plan, the NDIS will cover the cost of treatment based on the funding allocated for “Therapy Supports” or “Capacity Building” under your plan.

The costs covered typically include:

  • Physiotherapy and/or exercise physiology assessments and treatment sessions: This includes consultations, goal-setting, hands-on therapy, and exercise programs tailored to your needs.
  • Goal-based therapy: The NDIS will fund sessions that help you achieve your individual goals, such as improving mobility, strength, or independence.
  • Ongoing support: If ongoing physiotherapy and exercise physiology is necessary, it can be funded through your NDIS plan, subject to review.

Any additional services not covered by the NDIS, such as travel fees or certain non-therapy-related services, may require self-funding or private health insurance. Our clinic will help you navigate funding details and ensure maximum benefit from your NDIS plan.

During your first NDIS physiotherapy and/or exercise physiology appointment, you can expect a thorough assessment to understand your unique needs and goals. Here’s what will typically happen:

  • Initial discussion: Your physiotherapist or exercise physiologist will ask about your medical history, current condition, and any previous treatments or therapies you’ve received. They’ll also review your NDIS plan and any specific goals or supports listed.
  • Physical assessment: The physiotherapist or exercise physiologist will assess your strength, mobility, posture, range of motion, and any areas of pain or discomfort. This helps create a clear picture of your physical abilities and limitations.
  • Goal setting: Based on the assessment, your physiotherapist or  exercise physiologist will work with you to set realistic, achievable goals. These may include improving mobility, managing pain, or increasing strength.
  • Treatment plan: A personalised treatment plan will be developed, outlining the types of physiotherapy interventions, exercises, and therapy techniques to be used.

Your physiotherapist or exercise physiologist will guide you through the process, ensuring your treatment aligns with your NDIS goals and funding.
